Portimão Tree Day 2015Students from the 1st cycle of the EBI Mexilhoeira Grande, in Portimão, will help to plant one hundred trees, of indigenous species from the Algarve, next Friday, to celebrate Arbor Day, which is marked on March 21st.

About 55 students of this educational establishment will get down to work and plant the trees in the area of ​​Valencia de Baixo/Escampadinho, next to the Algarve International Autodrome, «area quite devastated by the forest fire that occurred last year».

“This active citizenship initiative aims to celebrate World Tree Day, raise awareness among children about the importance of trees and reforest an area devastated by fire in 2014 under the motto “join us so that we are increasingly sowing seeds for a healthier, more ecological and sustainable future for all”, said the Portimão Town Council in a press release.

The municipality of Portimo, which launched the initiative, has a partnership with the Association of Forestry Producers of the Barlavento Algarvio – ASPAFLOBAL and the Parish of Mexilhoeira Grande in carrying out the action.
