A new residential structure for the elderly was inaugurated last Sunday, in Benafim, in the municipality of Loulé. The equipment will have the capacity to accommodate 21 users, which is «another clear social response to one of the greatest needs of this inland parish marked by the aging of its population», according to the Municipality of Loulé.
The equipment will be managed by the Association for Progress and Welfare of the Parish of Benafim, located next to the Benafim Community Center and «will be a very important asset in the context of the services provided by the Association».
To put this residential structure upright, almost 793 thousand euros were invested. Both the Municipality of Loulé and the Social Security Institute (under the POPH Program – Operational Program for Human Potential) contributed around 223 euros each and the association that will manage the center contributed a sum of 281,8 million euros .
«After a lengthy process that began a decade ago, this equipment now reinforces the social support network in the Municipality of Loulé and is, according to the president of the Municipality, Vítor Aleixo, another step forward in social policy and in support of families, one of the priorities of this municipal executive», concluded the autarchy.
