Center-de-Science-Viva-do-Algarve5The Live Science Center of the Algarve, after the recent swearing-in of the new direction, submitted four applications for projects in the FCT competition, in which the Center is an institutional partner.

The submitted projects focus on themes such as “Speleothems and Global Changes of the Past: A new multidisciplinary approach”, coordinated by Cristina Veiga-Pires, professor, researcher at the University of Algarve and executive director of this Living Science Centre.

Tomasz Boski, professor and coordinator of the Marine and Environmental Research Center (CIMA) at Ualg, will coordinate the project “Natural Forces on the Human Occupation of an Estuarine System – The Case of the Guadiana”.

Finally, we highlight the applications on the “Comparison of transcripts of cork oaks (Quercus suber) tolerant and susceptible to Phytophthora cinnamomi” and the “Psychological dimensions of environmental changes in Portugal”, coordinated respectively by Alfredo Cravador and Rita Domingues, both from the University of the Algarve.

If these projects are financed, the center will actively participate in the dissemination of research carried out at the University of Algarve, through, for example, temporary exhibitions on the future of the salt marsh and salt-growing areas of the Guadiana River, on the Algarve Caves, or also about the Cork Oak Resistance or the Importance of Environmental Education in Society.
