The GNR this Tuesday detained a man for possession of a prohibited weapon, who is suspected to have been involved in several thefts in commercial establishments that have occurred in recent months in the municipalities of Faro and from Olhão.
The 31-year-old detainee is well known by the authorities and was already subject to a coercive measure of periodic presentation at the police station in the area of residence.
The GNR investigation into a theft in an establishment located in Salgados, in Faro, led the authorities to the suspect. After fulfilling a warrant to search the man's residence in Olhão, in collaboration with the local PSP, "several firearm ammunition of various calibers, a mountain pass and a baseball bat" were discovered and seized.
«In addition to the weapons, several objects presumably stolen were also seized at the residence, as a result of the illegal activity carried out by the detainee, which include travel bags, numerous pieces of clothing, lighters, boxes of shrouds and tools, as well as a small amount of narcotic and three grinding mills for the said product”, added the GNR, in a statement.
The detainee had a criminal record for the crimes of robbery, theft, reception, illegal possession of a weapon and drug trafficking.
