The town of Odeleite, in the municipality of Castro Marim, will celebrate the Christmas season with the recreation of a live Nativity scene with more than 50 extras, but not only that. A handicraft exhibition, local producers' market, taverns with various delicacies and lots of Christmas entertainment are also scheduled on the weekends of 20/21 and 27/28 December in that village.
Odeleite bets this year on a very original crib. It is a historical and living recreation, which has more than 50 extras, from peasants to carpenters, Roman guards, wise men and the traditional protagonists: Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
The crib made with different materials, from fibers, reeds, wood, cork, straw, sand and stones, is located on the main street of the town and will mobilize the entire village, which will wear the costume and embody the Christmas character.
In addition to the Nativity scene, there is a diversified list of activities for all age groups. For the little ones, a children's space with face painting, traditional games, donkey rides and the participation of various school groups and social institutions from Baixo Guadiana.
For the grown-ups, a fair with 25 local producers and 20 artisans who demonstrate the crafts of yesteryear.
Tasquinhas with numerous delicacies and various appetizers, not to mention the famous caldo verde. Even for the more gluttonous and curious, the traditional bread and sweets workshops at Casa de Odeleite, where those who attend are invited to taste and “get their hands dirty”.
A big highlight in the animation is the presence of comedian Serafim, who will tell the most beautiful (and humorous) Christmas tales on December 27th.
The Odeleite Nativity Scene can be visited from December 20th to 28th, however the extras ,, and all the entertainment in the town, only take place on the weekends of 20/21 and 27/28 December.
Admission to the living crib in Odeleite has a symbolic value of 1 euro which reverts to the Social Association of the Parish of Odeleite to support children and the elderly in the locality.
The initiative «Aldeia Presépio» aims to promote the town of Odeleite and attract visitors to the historic village of the municipality of Castro Marim.
