52 participants from various Algarve municipalities were present at the meeting, with representation from associations and movements of farmers already existing in the region. .

The reduction of funds to support the installation of young farmers, or the lack of dialogue between the Ministry of Agriculture and agricultural organizations were some of the themes addressed at the meeting, according to a press release from the National Agriculture Confederation.

The same document states that "the deadlines for agricultural organizations to express their opinions, for example on transitions from agri-environmental measures, where the government is preparing to harm farmers, are extremely short".

According to the press release, “the farmers recognized the importance of the meeting. Representatives of the Movement of Levante de Lagos, who embraced the fight against taxation in the sector and in less than a month gathered 2300 signatures in a petition and took them to the Assembly of

Republic, highlighted the preservation of regional identity and cultures in the Levant markets. They also highlighted the importance that these markets have in terms of tourism diversification».

The young farmers, on the other hand, took advantage of the meeting to give their opinion “on the extremely complicated way to obtain support, the immense associated bureaucracy “impossible” to overcome without the help of a professional, and the need for an association to help them”.

The meeting also clarified the «business of product certification and presented a brand (Sons of Tradition), which already exists and is available to associated family farmers».

An Installation Committee for an Association of Family Farmers in the Algarve was also established, in line with what is already happening in other regions.
