São Brás ChamberA new connection, made from scratch, between São Brás de Alportel and Via do Infante and, hence, the Faro, was dropped a long time ago by Estradas de Portugal (EP), but the São Brasense municipal executive has not forgotten the idea of having a better connection to the coast. The mayor of São Brás Vítor Guerreiro presented to the president of EP António Ramalho proposals for the requalification of the EN2, taking advantage of the presence of this responsible at an AMAL meeting.

The proposals presented include the «creation of a roundabout at the intersection of the EN2 with access to Faro and to Via do Infante, at the Coiro da Burra site", "the creation of a second lane in some uphill areas (sluggish lane) on the current route of the EN2", "the correction of some curves, which are more dangerous in this route" and «the implementation of safety measures for pedestrian circulation in Machados, crossed by the EN2».

"The completion of these works constitutes an important investment with a view to boosting the economy and the future of our county and, above all, it is a commitment to increasing the safety and quality of life of the São Brasense population, reasons that justify the request, on the part of the local authority, the utmost attention and consideration of Estradas de Portugal for this section of the EN2», revealed the City Council of São Brás de Alportel, in a press release.

São Brás nevertheless emphasizes the importance of the requalification of the EN125, the issue that brought the president of EP to the Algarve and his support for this project, but argues that an intervention on the EN2 in the connection of São Brás de Alportel to Faro and to Via do Infante, as an alternative to the previous connection project to Via do Infante, whose execution was suspended by the government, and initially integrated in the requalification of the EN125».
