barred_2-410x617The City Council of Aljezur has just reinforced its support for two projects by the Association for the Defense of the Historical and Archaeological Heritage of this county, which will now total 14 thousand euros.

One of the supports is intended for the study and musealization of the archaeological remains of Drº José Manuel Duarte. This project, in addition to preparing the entire estate of this illustrious Aljezurense, includes the opening of a room in the Municipal Museum, to be inaugurated later this year. In this case, the reinforcement is 2000 euros, now totaling 4000 euros.

Another amount that was increased, after the reconsideration of ADPHAA's candidacy for support to Associations/Program Contract, is intended for the continuation of the archaeological intervention in the Islamic silos at the Barrada site, in Aljezur. In this case, the budget will increase from 5000 to 10 thousand euros.

In the archaeological campaign, the excavations of all structures in the hypogeum I and II, of this important archaeosite, which presents enormous complexity, will be completed.

The team led by archaeologist Silvina Sivério, and which also includes Cláudia Santos and Joel Rodrigues, will begin work during the month of September, lasting four weeks.

The Municipality of Aljezur emphasizes that «this support is certainly very important for the development of the work that the Association has been developing in favor of the defense of the Heritage of Aljezur, in a close partnership with the local authority», constituting a «full response by the Chamber that does not neglect this aspect of Heritage, History and Culture».
