The Parque Ribeirinho "will be at the service of all the population who want to enjoy it within two months", believes the mayor of Faro Rogerio Cod.
This leisure space is in the «final phase of construction and should be completed in the month of May», although the mayor does not risk, for now, a date for the inauguration.
“I don't like to do math before situations are materialized. As soon as Polis tells us the date it will deliver the work to us, we will take care of it. It's not worth saying that it will be on the X or Y, because, in these things, we know it can be the Z», declared Rogério Bacalhau, on the radio program «Impressões», in which he was the guest of the Sul Informação and from Rádio Universitária do Algarve RUA FM.
On the ground, the advanced state of the work supports the mayor's conviction that this new leisure space will soon be at the service of the population. Officially, of course, because there are already many who take the opportunity to visit the place.
Although there is still movement of machines and men working on the work, the paved areas are almost all completed, the heavier infrastructures are built and the car park is already in use. The advanced state of the contract and the absence of barriers invites you to enjoy a walk along the river.
In the near future, Rogério Bacalhau hopes that this option will be extended to the general population and not just to the most adventurous and curious. “I hope that the space, which is very pleasant, can become a new centrality of the city”, he wished. To make this possible, there will be a trade and restaurant component associated with the new park.
«Right now, there are two pieces of equipment for restoration, launched by the Portuguese Environment Agency/Administration of the Hydrographic Region of the Algarve, as part of the land is in Public Water Domain. And we are now going to launch a contest for two restaurants and a kiosk on our part», said the mayor from farense.
The Ribeirinho Park will also have an open-air amphitheater, which will host cultural events. For now, the space will be managed by the Chamber of Faro, directly, but in the future, «with the needs and with whatever happens» may be considered «another solution», in which the Municipal Theater of Faro, "or another" can take on this task. “We already have things designed to have animation in this space”, said Rogério Bacalhau.
«Today, people are more awake to the sidewalk, to walking in the street, much of the result of the space we have next to Forum Algarve. The Parque Ribeirinho will be a complementary space to this one and I am convinced that people will enjoy it», believes the mayor of Faro.
The work that is ongoing and will be completed shortly is the first of two phases of the Ribeirinho de Faro, provided for in the project presented by Sociedade Polis. “There was a stage 2, on the other side of the Ria Formosa, in the lower part of Montenegro. For this, there is not even a project and it is not something that will move forward in the near future», he considered.
