The regional teams of Setúbal (U-14 Men), Lisbon (U-14 Women) and Porto (U-16 Men and Women) were the big winners of another edition of the Youth Basketball Festival that, for five days, gathered in Albufeira more than 900 players and hundreds of family and friends.The Algarve teams classified in 8th (U-14) and 7th (U-16) places.

Sunday morning, April 13th, was marked by the dispute for the Finals of the Basketball Festival at the various levels, at the Albufeira Sports Pavilion and at the Albufeira Basic and Secondary School, in Vale Pedras.

The Fair-Play award was given to Leiria (Under 14 Men and Under 16 Women), Viana do Castelo (Under 14 Women), and Aveiro (Under 16 Men).

This year, Basket Solidário's action reverted in favor of Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Albufeira, which received the sum of 1.269 euros, as a result of a donation of 1 euro by all participants in the event.

During the visit to the institution's facilities, provider Patrícia Seromenho informed the delegation, chaired by the president of the Albufeirense Municipality Carlos Silva e Sousa, and by the vice president of the Portuguese Basketball Federation (FPB), Vítor Ferreira, that the funds raised will be used in the acquisition of a van adapted to transport users with reduced mobility, allowing them to participate in various activities, including sports.

During the closing and awards ceremony of the Basketball Festival-Albufeira 2014, the organization expressed its appreciation for the initiative having registered another success, with athletes, managers and the rest of the delegation visibly satisfied with the result.

“I want to recognize the work done by the Portuguese Basketball Federation (FPB) in collaboration with the Algarve Basketball Association (ABA) and also with local clubs
who joined the event – ​​Imortal Basket Clube and Albufeira Basketball Club. I would also like to thank the technicians from the Municipality and the volunteers who ensured the functioning of the most diverse areas, from food, through transport, cleaning of the pavilions, among other logistical support”, said Carlos Silva e Sousa, informing about the availability of the Municipality to host the event again in 2015.

In addition to the mayor of Albufeira, the closing ceremony included speeches by Mário Saldanha, president of the FPB, Paulo Freitas, president of the Albufeira Municipal Assembly, and Augusto Badanha, president of the Portuguese Sports and Youth Institute (IPDJ).
