The Câmara de Lagoa invites the population to join Earth Hour, a civic movement against climate change, which will take place on March 29th.

Earth Hour 2014 will bring together hundreds of millions of people around the world in a symbolic action in defense of the environment, a unique moment of contemplation of the planet in which, for the eighth consecutive year, the world is in darkness.

The Lagoa City Council, recognizing that we must all contribute to preserving and protecting the environment from pollution, decided to join the civic campaign, worldwide, against climate change, inviting the entire community to turn off all the lights in their homes , public and private establishments for one hour, on March 29, between 20:30 pm and 21:30 pm.

Whatever your race, religion, culture and geographic situation, participate in this symbolic action in defense of the environment, a unique moment of contemplation of the planet and celebration of the commitment to protect it throughout the year.

It's not a long time, but it helps – and a lot – in protecting the environment and, in this way, the well-being of populations. Check how much the hour/day consumption of CO2 emissions saves the environment! A brutality. A small family can emit around 50 CO2/kg/month.

Earth Hour is an initiative of the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) that began in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, when 2,2 million people and more than 2.000 companies turned off the lights for an hour in a stand against the climate changes.

A year later, Earth Hour has become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people in 135 countries showing their support for this cause by symbolically turning off their lights.

Cities, homes, schools, businesses and iconic monuments across the planet will turn off their lights for Earth Hour 2014.

Global landmarks such as Harbor Bridge in Sydney; the CN Tower in Toronto; the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and the Coliseum in Rome, among many others, go dark as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent with each passing hour and in any part of the world.
