The 2014/20 Community Support Framework will be «the most decentralized ever», he guaranteed this Monday in Faro the Minister of Regional Development Miguel Poiares Maduro. This affirmation is supported by the general increase in funds for investments in the regions, under regional operational programmes, namely on the mainland, from which the Algarve will also benefit, despite having already left the group of poorer regions in the European Union.

Poiares Maduro was at the last meeting of the Algarve Regional Council, where he explained to the members of this body the general lines of the Algarve Operational Program until 2020, those that the chairman of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) David Santos had already advanced to Sul Informação, last week.

The Algarve will receive, in the community framework that is launched this year, "an increase in its funds of 82 percent", underlined the member of the Government. As the Algarve is a transition region, with no access to cohesion funds, this amount cannot be applied, for example, "on roads" and will be essentially dedicated "to people", namely in the area of lifelong education and training. to the dynamization of the business fabric.

To the Regional Council, David Santos stated that «in the next framework, we have to do better what we do well, in particular in tourism and make the “old” new, with a focus on valuing endogenous resources and capturing regional added value, preferably with the introduction of qualified knowledge”.

During the meeting was elected President of the Regional Council of the Algarve, the mayor Vítor Aleixo, Mayor of Loulé and member of AMAL.

The Regional Council of the Algarve is a consultative body, made up of 16 mayors of the Algarve, around two dozen social, economic, environmental and scientific organizations and representatives of regional services from various ministries.
