The 14th Al-Mutamid Music Festival will close with concerts in Olhão, on the 7th, and Lagos (8), with Chekara & Media Luna Flamenca, bringing together the traditions of Morocco and Spain.

Five decades after Abdessadak Chekara founded a group in Tétouan (Morocco) with the aim of bringing the two sides of the Strait closer together, his nephew Jalal Chekara, natural successor of the Chekara Orchestra, continues his important work of fusion between Arab-Andalusian music and flamenco.

Andalusí music, or al-âla, was born in Spain in Cordoba in the ninth century as a further testimony to the profound dialogue between southern Spain and the Arab world and North Africa.

Jalal Chekara is one of the great references of traditional Moroccan music and has collaborated in musical projects with renowned names such as Michael Nyman, Enrique Morente (considered the father of flamenco), Segundo Falcon, Marina Heredia…
This will be a unique opportunity to see in Portugal, on February 7th (Olhão Municipal Auditorium) and 8th February (Lagos Cultural Centre) the one that is the greatest current reference in Andalusí Arab music – Jalal Chekara.

This Moroccan musician conceived a show in an exclusive format for the closing of the 14th al-Mutamid Music Festival:

Jalal Chekara – Violin and Voice
Vicente Gelo – voice and percussion
Tino - Guitar
Luisa Palicio – Flamenco Ball
