Portimonense was defeated this Saturday by Benfica B, by 2-2, at Estádio Municipal de Portimão and allowed the leader Moreirense to increase the difference that separates the two teams in the table to five points. After turning the year in the first position of Liga XNUMX Cabovisão, the Algarvians couldn't hold the championship lead and go for the second consecutive defeat.
Portimonense entered the field with 11 players, but it was as if they had entered with one less player, as Ivo Nicolau was sent off after 2 minutes. Despite finding themselves at a disadvantage early on, the Algarve held the tie until half-time. At 59 minutes, João Teixeira undid the null and, ten minutes later, the same player was also sent off by referee Bruno Paixão.
In numerical equality, Portimonense tried to draw, but it was Benfica B that managed to increase the advantage, in the 87th minute, by Jorge Rojas. The home team still had a sovereign opportunity to reduce the disadvantage, with a penalty, but Ricardo Pessoa shot to the defense of the Benfica goalkeeper. The move took place in the upper 90's and motivated another expulsion, the third of the game, this time by Fábio Cardoso, the author of the foul.
Despite being overtaken by Benfica B in the table and having dropped to fourth place, Portimonense continues to occupy a place that entitles them to promotion. Moreirense leads alone, with 48 points, followed by Porto B (45), Benfica and Portimonense, both with 43.
