The state of the sea will worsen this weekend, especially on the west coast, and the Navy advises all those who are thinking of going to sea to “double attention to scrupulous compliance with all procedures and rules of safety».

«According to the meteorological forecast of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere, the deterioration of the state of the sea is forecast, which will mainly affect the west coast of mainland Portugal, with a forecast of maritime agitation in the west-northwest quadrant, to increase until at 8 meters high», alerts the Portuguese Navy, on its website.

The worsening of the sea state will be gradual throughout the weekend and until the middle of next week, with the forecast pointing to the peak to be reached on Monday, January 6th.

These councils are directed, in particular, to the fishing and nautical recreational community, who are also urged to find out about the status of the bars on the Navy's website and with the local Maritime Authority, before going out to sea.

«The maritime search and rescue coordination centers in Lisbon and Ponta Delgada (MRCC Lisbon and MRCC Delgada), as well as the Funchal sub-centre (MRSC Funchal), are permanently monitoring the activity at sea and ready to give response to any emergency situation,” added the Navy.
