Teatro das Figuras will bet on regional production to kick off the new season. The play «Open Hamlet», staged by João Miguel Garcia and co-produced by the association ArQuente and the Municipal Theater of Faro will be at the Farense cultural space on September 13th and 14th.

Probing the psyche of Hamlet, «a character that is as terrifying as it is disconcerting», is the idea behind this piece, which will have its absolute debut in Faro. «The idea of this performance work is to open Hamlet and go in search of a mysterious character that has escaped and enchanted us for more than four hundred years», illustrated the show's creator João Garcia Miguel.

The director also considered that «all these characteristics make him [Hamlet], in a paradoxical way, a magnetic, attractive, disturbing character, giving us material and motivation to build a work that reflects on who we are, how we live together. starting from a logic of permanent conflict with the world, with others and with ourselves».

«João Garcia Miguel, director, writer, visual artist and performer, as well as the author of plays, started his career in the 90s, having meanwhile established himself as a fundamental milestone in the cultural panorama and specifically in the theme of the renewal of the theater language of the late twentieth century in Portugal», described the Municipal Theater of Faro.

Dance will also be featured at Teatro das Figuras

The TMF's September programming will have a new high point on the 27th, the day when the aerial contemporary dance show «Azul Infinito» takes to the stage at Teatro das Figuras. Produced by Dancenema Associação Cultural, this show «reflects the search for liberation, the search and the feeling of harmony and disharmony, the anguish and peace and the feeling that Infinito brings us while covered in Blue. The verticality and horizontality are well delineated, combining the technique of contemporary dance with the aerial trapeze».

In an initiative associated with this project, Teatro das Figuras will host on 24 and 25 September an aerial dance workshop, given by dancers Ana Alberto, Joana Saraiva and Thora Jorge, all of them interpreters of «Azul Infinito». The workshop runs from 19pm to 22pm and «intends to work on the contemporary release dance technique combined with the aerial trapeze circus technique».

More information about the September schedule can be obtained on the Municipal Theater website Faro, a company owned by the municipality of Faro that manages Teatro das Figuras.
