Isilda Gomes (PS), who tonight won the presidency of the Portimão Chamber, but was unable to obtain an absolute majority, told the Sul Informação not exclude 'no possibility in agreement with the other candidates'.

The socialists have secured three seats in the council, but are in the minority, with a councilor seat assigned to each of the opposition parties – one for the Servir Portimão coalition, led by José Pedro Caçorino, one for the PSD, of Pedro Xavier, which took third place in the preferences of Portimonenses, one for the Left Block (João Vasconcelos) and one for the CDU (Nelson Freitas).

Before the elections, José Pedro Caçorino had already announced that he did not intend to accept any kind of alliance. That's why, in statements to the Sul Informação, Isilda Gomes added: «If someone excludes themselves, it is their responsibility, because I do not exclude anyone to talk to».

"There have already been two presidents who, even without a majority, have done a great job and I am sure I will do the same", said the newly elected mayor of Portimão.

«I have no problems talking to democratic people, I have no doubts that these are responsible people willing to work for Portimão. We don't have a majority but this also opens up new expectations and possibilities. This result forces new directions, I am a democratic person and it will not be difficult to find meeting points to improve Portimão», he reinforced.

Regarding policies for the future, Isilda Gomes stressed that “the time for concrete is over, we are well served at this level, now it's time to consolidate the city, look at the people in this city, try to do that. Despite the financial situation, there are many things that can be done without big investment or big costs».

The life of socialists in Portimão will not be easy, as they do not have a majority in the Chamber, not even in the Municipal Assembly.
