Mayor of Faro receives the deaflympic judo runner-up

Joana Santos, from Faro and winner of the silver medal for Portugal in Women's Judo, at the 2013 Deaflympic Games, which took place on August 2, in Sofia, Bulgaria, will be received by the mayor of Faro, this Tuesday, August 6th, at 17 pm, at Paços do Concelho.

The athlete from Faro, who has already won a gold medal at the Deaflympic Games in Taipei 2009, in the category – 63 kg, is, according to the Chamber of Faro, «the paradigm that work, effort and dedication pay off, being an example to be followed by all young people who believe in the beauty of their dreams and in the strength of their convictions».

The municipality underlines, in a press release, that «Joana Santos is a source of pride for the city and deserves to see its sporting merit recognized, which is why the resident of the City Council of Faro intends to congratulate, in person, that which constitutes, in a special way, a unique example of value and excellence in the world sport scene».

Joana Santos is a 2nd year student of the Communication Design course at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon.
