Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho will once again be present at the Festa do Pontal, this Friday, this time on the Calçadão de Quarteira, after the much more reserved option of last year, in which the place chosen for the annual action of re-enter politics from PSD was Aquashow's ballroom. In a year of municipal elections, the social-democratic family is once again investing in public space and the outdoors.
The party has not started yet, but it is certain that there will be a protest at the door. The Commission of Users of Via do Infante (CUVI) has already promised to be present, as it was last year at Aquashow, to demand the abolition of tolls on Via do Infante and, on the way, to ask for the government's resignation.
Anti-toll activists promised a "peaceful" vigil, taking place on the beach and sidewalk of Quarteira, "for the abolition of tolls and in memory of all their victims."
A protest that was predictable, not least because CUVI has promoted protest actions in the places where Passos Coelho and Cavaco Silva are on vacation, but it was not enough for the PSD to relinquish the Calçadão de Quarteira, which traditionally hosts the event.
“This year, the Festa do Pontal takes on special relevance, taking into account the proximity to local elections. It is therefore expected that the president of the PSD, Pedro Passos Coelho, will give a motivational tone to the party's militants, candidates and sympathizers, taking into account the objective of winning the election», considered the PSD/Algarve, in a press release.
«Returning to the Calçadão de Quarteira is also a sign that the PSD gives to the country, reaffirming its popular character and its social-democratic matrix», illustrated the president of the PSD/Algarve.
The first Festa do Pontal took place in 1976 in Faro, in a pine forest near the beach of Faro, in the Pontal area, and Francisco Sá Carneiro participated. The initiative has since changed location, having been held in downtown Faro and in 2006 it established arraiais in the city of Quarteira. The party usually brings together thousands of militants and supporters of the party.
