Vila Real de Santo António and Monte Gordo On the first two weekends of September, they honor their patroness with traditional festivities.

The festivities of Nossa Senhora da Encarnação, patron saint of Vila Real de Santo António, take place on August 31st and September 1st, with a fado contest and musical shows at Praça Marquês de Pombal.

On the 31st, Saturday, after the morning sports competition, the second round of the VRSA Amateur Fado Contest will take place at 22 pm at Praça Marquês de Pombal.

The procession in honor of Nossa Senhora da Encarnação takes to the streets on Sunday, September 1st, after 17 pm, and will travel through some of the main arteries of the city, culminating with the fishermen's greeting to the image of the patron saint, next to the pier.

The Sunday night program includes a concert with “Ágata”, starting at 22:30, at Praça Marquês de Pombal, and ending with fireworks, at 24:00 am, on Avenida da República, next to the Guadiana River.

Between the 4th and 8th of September, it will be the turn of Monte Gordo hold its festivities in honor of Nossa Senhora das Dores, patron saint of fishermen.

The highlight of the festivities is the religious procession, on September 8th, at 17 pm. Marked by a very characteristic nature, the religious celebration runs along the sandy beach of Monte Gordo, being accompanied not only by hundreds of faithful and tourists, but also by fishing boats that, with their horns, announce the passage of the religious procession.

Inserted in the traditional festivities, it is also held on Sunday, September 8th, in the western part of the Marginal of Monte Gordo, a concert with Marco Paulo.

At midnight, there is a fireworks display on the beach.

The traditional VRSA and Monte Gordo are organized by the Municipality of VRSA and by the Parish Councils of VRSA and Monte Gordo. They have the support of VRSA SGU, the Santo António de Arenilha Fishermen Association and the Bay of Artisanal Fishing Association Monte Gordo.
