The work for the passage of 60 KV overhead lines to underground lines at the Albufeira Substation has already been completed. The work resulted from the signing of a protocol between the Municipality of Albufeira and EDP Distribuição Energia SA.

The burial work for the high voltage lines connecting the Albufeira Substation has already been completed, announced the local Council.

The works that began in 2010 resulted from the protocol signed between the Municipality of Albufeira and EDP with a view to the passage of 60 KV overhead lines to underground lines, in a length of approximately 1600 meters, which are no longer taken to the substation by air, in the urbanization area of Caliços.

High voltage cables to be buried

The project, which involved an investment by the Municipality in the order of 3 million euros, was being carried out in phases, in order to take advantage of the works of Rehabilitation of National Road 395, between Beco da Cocheira and Access to the Health Centre, and the earthworks on the Paul Harris Street extension, between the Health Center and the existing roundabout to the east.

The last phase of the work took place during the month of June, with the dismantling of the conductors of the LN60 0052 Albufeira – Armação de Pêra line.

Mayor José Carlos Rolo stresses that he is very satisfied with the conclusion of the works, “not only because they mean a substantial improvement in the conditions of energy supply to the Municipality, but also because of the added value achieved in terms of the impact on the landscape”.

High voltage cables to be dismantled

The councilor for Accessibility and Energy, Carlos Quintino, says that “from the point of view of reducing possible risks to the health of the population, and even with the World Health Organization stating that existing scientific studies do not prove the dangers of electromagnetic fields generated by high voltage cables, it is important for the Municipality to be able to guarantee the population's tranquility in this matter, and this has now been achieved”.
