The Loulé Council went public to guarantee that only 5% of the council's consumers pay the highest value for water and sewage in the country, which «corresponds to a tiny portion of the municipality's territory and with very specific characteristics: Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo».

The remaining citizens pay values "within the national average" and even below those of neighboring municipalities, assured the Loulé municipality in a press release.

In response to news published in the Media, the Chamber explained that "these two spaces have fixed fees associated with the payment of water and sewage that somehow try to create sustainable conditions for the investment that is needed in these spaces and for the degree of demand of its residents in relation to green spaces, road network infrastructure, etc».

“This is a luxury area par excellence, one of the most renowned resorts in Europe, in which the quality of services provided in terms of maintenance and creation of infrastructure is paid for through these fixed rates”, illustrated the municipality.

«However, these values are not applied to the vast majority of the universe of consumers in Loulé (95 percent) who pay a value far below what is charged in these areas, which is the national average, and compared to some municipalities in the Algarve it is even inferior,” he countered.

Once a bill is made, 'a water consumer who does not have sewage pays per year, for 10 cubic meters, 168 euros, and a consumer who has water and sewage, pays a value of 284 euros, a cost much lower than the 498 euros indicated in the aforementioned news and that corresponds only to the amount paid by the 5 percent of consumers in Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo».

"As such, the statement that the citizen of Loulé is the one with the most expensive water in the country is incorrect," defended the Loulé Chamber.
