A show that is never equal to another and that always starts from the suggestions given by the audience. This is the recipe for “the improbables“, a show by Comédia de Improviso, which is presented for the first time in the Algarve, in Os Artistas, in Faro, on Friday, the 12th, at 22 pm, and at House of the People of St. Stephen (Tavira) on Saturday, April 13, at 22:30 pm.

Telmo Ramalho, one of the three actors on stage (the others are Pedro Borges and Marta Borges) guaranteed, in an interview with Sul Informação, that «the shows in Faro and in Santo Estêvão they will be totally different, since the rule is always the same: what we do depends on the suggestion of the public».

“We don't have rehearsals, we don't have text, we don't have scripts, pre-rehearsed scenes or premeditations. The content of each presentation is completely original, created in real time by the actors on stage, only from the suggestions of the audience and according to the rules of the different improvised games proposed for each night», he adds.

“People give us game suggestions and we have to obey those games. It can be just questions, just rhymes, physical games, where, for example, you can't speak and everything has to be done with gestures, or even Cluedo, where someone in the audience chooses the weapon, the killer and the location of the crime. It is always totally improvised and the audience is an integral part of the show», says the actor. The only thing that is not part of his show is «the brectiousness», he stresses.

Explained like that, it doesn't seem like it takes any work. But improvising, assures Telmo Ramalho, is a lot of work and requires a lot of technique. “We don't have a text, but we have a lot of training. We all had training in so-called conventional theater and we also work in theatre, television, radio, we do dubbing. But we bet a lot on our training and every year we go abroad. We've already been to Chicago twice [which is a kind of homeland of improvisational comedy], we've been to Brazil and in January we went to Holland, all to deepen our training».

And now, after countless sold out rooms, thousands of spectators and more than 200 presentations throughout the country and abroad, «the improbables» arrive in the Algarve, after the show was created in 2008 by Mundo Improviso Cultural Association.

The group goes on regular tours and exchanges, having already performed with Brazilian Barbixas in Lisbon, participated in the Chicago Improv Festival (USA) and Festlip Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), always exchanging experiences with other distinguished international improvisers. Furthermore, they provide training for actors and companies.

«This show is usually presented in formal theaters. We have just finished, for example, a season in A Barraca, in Lisbon. Therefore, doing it in different spaces, in bars, is a challenge. This proximity to the audience creates a positive energy that helps the show itself», stresses Telmo Ramalho.

The different location, in fact, does not frighten the three actors: "we improvise anywhere, in an outdoor garden, at weddings, at product launches". The only thing they need is for you to challenge them.

In the Algarve, with two shows, in Faro and Santo Estêvão, Telmo Ramalho even advises the public to go “to both”, because they will be, he guarantees, “completely different. The public asks… they do. Therefore, each show d'the improbables it is unique and unrepeatable.
