António José Seguro and local and regional leaders of the PS «celebrated April Fool's Day in Portimão»

JSD/Portimão regretted today, in a statement, that the PS has exceeded the «maximum limit for lies (referring to April 1st) in the launch of Isilda Gomes' candidacy for the Portimão Chamber», last Friday, the 5th.

JSD/Portimão argues that “municipal issues should be handled according to the proper use of common sense and truth, which unfortunately were totally absent in the official launch of Drª Isilda Gomes' candidacy for the presidency of Portimão City Council last Friday to night, at a rally held at the Municipal Auditorium».

According to young social democrats from Portimão, they believe that the current president of the Chamber Manuel da Luz “has full rights to remember the “work done by 37 years of socialist governance at the head of the destinies of the Chamber of Portimão”, however, just like the overwhelming majority of Portimão, we believe that it is not very proud of such a difficult path, which led Portimão, in January 2012, to the leadership of the Municipalities of Portugal, with the largest short-term debt, in the amount of 104 million euros».

JSD/Portimão understands that «the current mayor of Portimão should, yes, point the way or what is the solution to the ruinous situation that this same long misgovernance of 37 years has caused for all Portimão».

"It is unacceptable that, after so many years of successive socialist executives, the PS/Portimão does not justify how Portimão represents 23% of the short-term debts, of the total number of most debtor Municipalities, in the list of municipalities facing financial disruption, in a total of 450 million euros. In Portimão there is no doubt, the fault lies with a single party: the Socialist Party», stresses, in the statement, Carlos Gouveia Martins, president of JSD/Portimão.

JSD wants Insurance to review “exemplary” concept

On the other hand, the young social democrats of Portimão also advise José António Seguro, secretary general of the PS, «to better prepare the content of his interventions and to review the concept of “exemplary”».

«In view of the unrealistic hopes of José António Seguro, who stated that Portimão is “an exemplary council, in supporting companies, people and traders”, JSD/Portimão is willing to do the work that the Socialist executive of Portimão forgot to prepare for the current PS General Secretary».

«JSD/Portimão regrets to inform António José Seguro that the “Exemplary Council” of PS/Portimão is the one that, after a study dated September 2011, led to the loss of almost a third of the stores in the city center in Portimão in the last decade, according to a survey carried out by the Association of Commerce and Services of the Algarve Region (ACRAL) and by the Commercial Association of Portimão (ACP). We are also sorry that José António Seguro is unaware that, according to this study, of the 300 stores existing when URBCOM (a program aimed at the commercial revitalization of the center of Portimão) was launched, about 10 years ago, 90 have closed their doors, which corresponds to almost 30% of the total and that the data collected by the trade associations also reveal that, during that period of time, 110 establishments changed ownership».

«Still on the “Exemplary Council” of PS/Portimão, we recall that at the end of February 2012, in statements to the Lusa agency, the president of the Portimão Commercial Association (ACP) Paulo Pacheco stated that the non-compliance of the municipality led by the PS/ Portimão, was stifling the economy of the municipality of Portimão, with delays in payments to suppliers having a major implication in the lives of small local businesses», adds the JSD statement.

«According to the Financial Yearbook of Portuguese Municipalities, carried out by the Association of Official Accountants, Portimão was, in early 2012, one of the most indebted Portuguese municipalities with an alarming liability of 147.925.098 euros (!) and the second with more debts to suppliers. According to the General Directorate of Local Authorities, the Portimão Council takes approximately 1200 days, in other words, close to 3 years to pay its suppliers».

For all these reasons, JSD/Portimão “challenges António José Seguro to rectify his speech and apologize to the people from Portimão harmed by the Socialist misgovernment”.

Isilda Gomes forgot about young people and numbers

In their long statement, the young oranges from Portimão still accuse the Socialist candidate Isilda Gomes to forget about young people in her speech, when «all the conditions were met» for it to have presented «structuring and integrative measures to fix young Portimonenses at heart, and by profession, to our City».

JSD recalls that, according to data on Unemployment Registered by Municipality of the Employment and Vocational Training Institute (www.iefp.pt), regarding the monthly statistics for February 2013, «the municipality of Portimão is the one with the highest unemployment of all the Algarve region'.

«We live in a time when all PS leaders at the national level began, suddenly and unexpectedly, to be alarmed by the unemployment rates that had been forgotten in the years prior to the current Governing of Pedro Passos Coelho, and so the absence is surprising. of an “honorable” mention by António José Seguro to the present leaders, given the great incapacity to get around this matter by the socialist executive from Portimão, who manages the fate of the unreal “Exemplary Council”. But even stranger is the PS/Portimão and Isilda Gomes not talking about what they intend to do to all the unemployed young people who want to stay in their city and who, due to the Socialist Party's inefficiency, are forced to leave the current city with more unemployment in the Algarve , according to the IEFP, and also the one that in 2011 was, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE), the Portuguese city with the highest national unemployment rate, also thanks to 37 years of leadership in the Municipality by leaders of the Party of Isilda Gomes and Manuel da Luz», said Carlos Gouveia Martins.

Finally, JSD/Portimão says it is "sure" that Portimão "deserves much more than the "New Direction" that Dr. Isilda Gomes pseudo-presented, and that it is in no way different from all the "Old Directions" that the directors of the PS/Portimão traced the last 37 years and that led the city to the current financial and social situation it is experiencing».
