Teatro Lethes will host the «Andalusia Big Band», directed by Zé Eduardo, and the Mini Jazz combo on April 5, at 21 pm, in what will be the third edition of the «Uma sexta de Jazz» initiative, which the Associação Grémio das Músicas (AGM) is developing monthly in this Faro cultural space.

«Andalusia Big Band» will present the show Tribute to Thad Jones” is a tribute «to one of those who was certainly one of the greatest directors and composers for the Big Band».

The American musician was known for being a «legendary trumpeter who started playing and writing in the Count Basie Orchestra in the 50s and who, years later, together with drummer Mel Lewis, founded one of the most emblematic big bands in history. of modern jazz», revealed the AGM.

"The themes of Thad Jones are masterpieces for Big Band, true jewels in the best African-American tradition for these great jazz formations," he added.

As for the Spanish training, it was created in 2011 on the initiative of a group of Sevillian musicians, the “Andalucía Big Band” was born with the aim of being a stable orchestra that will serve to bring jazz closer to the general public, making known both the traditional repertoire for big band as, and above all, the works of current composers.

The orchestra's official debut was at the 14th Jazz Festival of the University of Seville, its main patron, in 2011. Following this line, and already in 2012, the band played at the “VI Festival Soberao Jazz” in Seville, in celebration of the 1st "International Jazz Day" by Unesco, in Faro, and at the 15th Festival de Jazz of the University of Seville, the latter directed by Zé Eduardo.

More recently, and again in Seville, he performed with singer Susana Sheiman with arrangements and direction by Italian Duccio Bertini. In December 2012 he presents with great success the Tribute to Thad Jones, a themed concert held in the Cicus auditorium of the University of Seville and again under the baton of Zé Eduardo.

The Combo Mini Jazz «is perhaps the youngest Jazz quartet today, with ages ranging from 10 to 16 years old, which is no impediment to working together for about a year».

«In addition to the classics by Miles Davis, Charlie Mingus and Duke Ellington, Mini Jazz also have in good hands the treatment they give to the best rock that has been made, when they venture airily through the lines of Bob Dylan, Lenny Kravitz, Paramore, etc, etc. The future is theirs and they are already preparing it!” said the AGM.

This is a production of Associação Grémio das Músicas, with support from the Secretary of State for Culture, General Directorate of Arts and ACTA – The Algarve Theater Company, the resident company of Lethes and responsible for the programming of this Theatre.
