Last Saturday, the Algarve hosted the National Championship of Fast Chess (Individual and Mixed), a competition between university students from various academies in the country. The winner of the individual competition was Jorge Ferreira from the University of Porto, who dethroned Ruben Pereira, winner of the two previous editions.

The Academic Association of the University of Algarve, which organized the event through its Sports Office, was represented by José Paulino, Guilherme Portada and Tiago Brito, who ranked fifth, twenty-sixth and thirtieth, respectively.

The headquarters of AAUAlg, in Gambelas, also served as the stage for the team competition, in which the University of Lisbon stood out, beating its counterparts in Porto and Minho.

The AAUAlg Sports Office organized the event in partnership with the Academic Federation of University Sports and with the support of the Algarve Chess Academy and the Portuguese Chess Federation.

The next university chess competition, this time in a semi-fast competition, takes place in Braga between the 6th and 11th of May next year.
