«Pelas Mãos de Bernardo» was born a lot of music, which quickly became a reference in the national cultural panorama and which made its author one of the most respected Portuguese artists of his generation. Bernardo Sassetti will be honored today, Saturday, at Teatro das Figuras in Faro, in an initiative that includes not only a concert, but also a conversation about his work.

The Portuguese pianist and composer, who died this year, is the center of an event that starts at 18 pm, with a gathering in which anyone can participate, which will be complemented with musical excerpts by Bernardo Sassetti.

The public will be joined by specialists in music and artists, namely the critic and jazz programmer from the Serralves Foundation António Curvelo, Manuel Jorge Veloso, pioneer critic and popularizer of the musical genre, university professor Vítor Reia-Baptista and musician Zé Eduardo, among others. The conversation will take place in the Foyer of Teatro das Figuras.

At 21 pm, the concert “Pelas Mãos de Bernardo” will take place, bringing together five young pianists: Alexandre Dahmen, Daniel Bernardes, Gonçalo Moreira, Ricardo Pinto and Luís Barrigas.

A show that will bring together original themes from the repertoire of Bernardo Sassetti and authors associated with his discography. It will also unite two generations of musicians, as the five pianists invited will be joined by three “veterans” and faithful companions of Bernardo Sassetti: bassists Carlos Barretto and Zé Eduardo and drummer Alexandre Frazão.

This is a tribute from the region to Bernardo Sassetti, organized by Associação Grémio das Musicas, based in Faro and directed by Zé Eduardo. Bernardo Sassetti, despite not being from the Algarve, regularly came to the South to show his art and has in his vast repertoire works linked to the region.

Examples are the «Suite para Dom Roberto», a creation commissioned by the Cine-Clube de Faro on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, as well as the concert/symphony “Gente Singular”, a work composed in the context of the 150th anniversary of Manuel Teixeira Gomes, inspired by the homonymous work of the writer from Portimo.
