This year, the Algarve maintained its five Michelin-starred restaurants, with two of them, Vila Joya, in Albufeira, and The Ocean, in Lagoa, remaining the only two-star in the country.

Vila Joya, by chef Dieter Koschina, has been classified with two stars since 1999, while The Ocean, by chef Hans Neuner, and located in Vila Vita Park, maintained its second star achieved a year ago.

The region also has three restaurants awarded with one star, all of them in Loulé: the restaurants Henrique Leis (Almancil), São Gabriel (Almancil) and Willie's (Vilamoura).

In the Michelin choice for 2013, Portugal lost a restaurant, now having 11 restaurants with this prestigious award, after last year having had 12 star establishments.

Our country won a new star – Belcanto, by chef José Avillez, in Lisbon – but lost two (Tavares, in Lisbon, and Arcadas da Capela, at Quinta das Lágrimas, in Coimbra).
