The Clube Náutico de Tavira (CNT) marked the start of the 2012/2013 sporting season of Escola de Vela with the presence of the sailor Sara Carmo, who represented Portugal at the London Olympic Games.

According to the direction of the CNT, their presence «was a very important milestone in an event that will be recorded in the club's history and will represent a great incentive for all sailing lovers, especially allowing young sailors to have contact with the world of high competition in the sailing, as well as structuring their skills and abilities so that, with hard work and dedication, they too can follow in the footsteps of our great sailor and achieve sporting success».

Holder of an impressive sporting record, Sara Carmo defended the colors of the Clube Náutico de Tavira from 2006 to 2009 in the Laser Radial class, under the guidance of coach Ricardo Magalhães, having left after joining the architecture degree at the Technical University of Lisbon. representing the Cascais Naval Club.

As sailing is a healthy sport that can be practiced at any age as a form of leisure or in competition, promoting permanent contact and developing respect for nature, with its practice children and young people deepen important motor and cognitive abilities in their development, namely the self-confidence, decision-making power, ability to concentrate, responsibility, dexterity and motor coordination, sense of direction and balance.

In a permanent context of training, whether on land or at sea, practitioners acquire important notions of safety, learning to use the wind, tides and waves to control small boats. Sailing is a safe sport and promotes an individual's physical and intellectual well-being.

Following the work carried out in the past, the CNT «maintains a strong commitment to the Sailing School, constituting the only training offer in the municipality of Tavira in the teaching and practice of sailing», in the Optimist classes (initiation, improvement, pre-competition and competition) and 420 (competition).

In addition to these classes, the CNT Sailing School also offers sailing courses for adults, on dates and times to be designated and depending on a minimum number of participants. Registration is open for all classes.
