The Continente de Portimão Shopping Centre, in collaboration with the Association for the Defense of Animals of Portimão (ADAP), promotes an action for the adoption of abandoned animals and the collection of goods, as part of the World Animal Day, which marks the 4th of October.

The action, which aims to sensitize the population to the need to adopt abandoned animals and, consequently, to improve their living conditions, will take place in the days October 4, 5, 6 and 7 from 10:00 am to 19:00 pm, at the main entrance of the Continente Portimão Shopping Centre.

People who cannot adopt a four-legged friend can participate in the initiative by donating food and other essential items such as beds, collars, leashes and hygiene products, intended for animals protected by ADAP and found in the volunteers' homes, canine hotels or FAT (Temporary Host Families).

The action includes an exhibition of photographs of animals and ADAP's journey, which was created in 2008 and which has since developed its mission with the support of membership fees, donations and sales at fairs.

During the course of the action, clarification will be given about the treatments, diseases and needs of the animals, with the support of a veterinary technician.

World Animal Day has been celebrated annually on October 4th since 1931, bearing in mind that it is the day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.

The main objectives of World Animal Day is to raise awareness of the need to protect animals and the preservation of all species, show the importance of animals in people's lives and celebrate animal life in all its aspects.
