Portuguese international goalkeeper Ricardo is Olhanense's latest addition for next season. The player who was introduced this afternoon signed a contract valid for one season and points out the return to goal of the Quinas team as one of the goals of this adventure in the Algarve.
At the press conference for the presentation of the player, Isidoro Sousa, president of the rubronegros, considered Ricardo as «a strong reinforcement for Olhanense. He is a player who needs no introduction, he is the second most international goalkeeper».
Isidoro Sousa also praised the way in which the negotiations with the guardian were carried out, adding that the agreement took five minutes to be reached. “It was easy negotiations. Ricardo is a citizen who understands the difficulties of the country and the club. I called Ricardo and, after an hour and a half, I was in Olhão and, after five minutes, we signed a contract. I'm proud to have a player of Ricardo's dimension».
The goalkeeper, on the other hand, reinforced the idea of an easy understanding between the two parties: «it was easy because I felt, both from the president and from the coach, a seriousness and willingness for me to be part of this work group. I hope that, in the end, we all end up happy with our goals fulfilled, whether individual or collective».
And Ricardo has his main personal objective well defined: to return to the “team of the corners”.
«Working seriously at the club, my goal is to reach the National Team again. If I manage to get there, it's because I'm helping my club, because that's the only way to get to the national team», he explained.
The goalkeeper, who was one of the heroes of Euro 2004, had opportunities in this season to emigrate, but preferred to join Olhanense, despite the fact that the proposal was not so attractive on a monetary level. «It wasn't for the salary that I came to Olhanense, I could have emigrated. At this stage, I give priority to other types of situations, such as the possibility of working with serious people», he said.
Ricardo is the eighth addition to the team coached by Sérgio Conceição for next season, after Babanco, D'Onofrio, David Silva, Nuno Silva, Boka, Abdi and Targino arrived in Olhão. Fernando Alexandre already represented the club, but terminated with Sp. Braga and also signed a contract with rubronegros.
