Mário Soares, former president of the Republic and one of the most important Portuguese politicians in recent decades, is the next guest of the Horizontes do Futuro conference cycle, organized by the Municipality of Loulé.

On Tuesday, September 4, at 21 pm, the former governor will present a conference where he will reflect on the state of politics in Portugal and the paths he has taken.

The conference will take place at the Salão Nobre of the Municipality of Loulé, admission is free and prior registration is not required.

Mário Soares was, since the time of university student, an active resistant to the dictatorship. Graduated in Historical-Philosophical Sciences and Law, he has a vast political career. He was Prime Minister of the I Constitutional Government, having also presided over the II Government, and President of the Republic between 1986 and 1996.

He was responsible for finalizing Portugal's accession process to the EEC, conducting the last negotiations and signing the Accession Treaty, in 1985. He was Minister of Foreign Affairs, Member of the Assembly of the Republic and Member of the European Parliament.

He has a vast international curriculum, having led several organizations and committees worldwide. He is the author and co-author of dozens of works published in various fields and has received throughout his life numerous academic and institutional recognitions in Portugal and throughout the world.

Since 2009, the Municipal Council of Loulé has been carrying out the series of conferences Horizontes do Futuro with the aim of actively contributing to the thought and reflection on fundamental matters of our times.

Names as diverse as Adriano Moreira, Fernando Rosas, Simone de Oliveira, Pacheco Pereira, Nuno Rogeiro, Eduardo Catroga, Lídia Jorge, Eduardo Lourenço, Eunice Muñoz, Manuel Maria Carrilho, Ana Gomes, António Marinho and Pinto, António have passed through this cycle D'Orey Capucho, among many others.
