The EN125 is one of the Portuguese roads with the highest accident rate where the GNR operation is taking place until 26 August, to control speed, in a week dedicated to the roads with the highest accident rate in the country.

The “Speed Enforcement” operation is taking place throughout Europe, in 27 countries at the same time, and places more than 400 agents and 46 radars on Portuguese roads.

Captain Marco, from the GNR, explains to Renascença radio that “fixed and mobile radars will be placed on routes with the highest accident rate, in order to carry out the same control”.

One of the most dangerous roads ever has been the National Road 125 in the Algarve, which, due to tolls on the A22, has had more traffic and more accidents. "However, if we compare the data for the first half of last year with this year, we see a significant reduction in the number of fatalities", points out the captain of the GNR.

The aim of this European operation is to combat one of the three main causes of death on the roads across Europe, with a special focus on younger drivers.
