The Caixa Geral de Depósitos Festival returns for its 7th edition in the Algarve, this year in a different format: unlike previous editions, the concerts will take place in four different cities and during the summer months.

The festival maintains the objective of its creation, taking classical music to the Algarve public, in diversified concerts with free admission, limited to the capacity of the spaces.

The Opening Concert takes place on the 21st of July, at the Convento de Santo António, in Loulé, at 19:30 pm. A string quartet, composed by OA musicians Krassimir Dzahambazov and Laurentiu Simões (violins), Ângela Silva (viola) and Zsuzsanna Brezovai (cello), will interpret Shostakovich, Borodin and Frank Bridge.

On July 25, Orquestra do Algarve and the Army Symphonic Band will be together on stage, at Quartel da Atalaia in Tavira, at 22 pm, in a concert that will bring together around 00 musicians on stage.

Under the direction of conductors John Avery (who will lead the Orquestra do Algarve) and Major João Basílio (who will raise the baton for the Banda Sinfónica do Army), the audience will have the opportunity to listen to songs by Verdi, Leroy Anderson, Arthur Bliss, among others, in addition to the world premiere of the work “Against all Odds”, composed by John Avery to mark the 10th anniversary of the Orquestra do Algarve. This work will also be performed at the opening of the festival's other concerts.

On August 2, the German singer Ute Lemper performs alongside the Orquestra do Algarve, at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro, at 22 pm, under the musical direction of Cesário Costa, OA's Main Guest Conductor.

Ute Lemper's career is vast and varied, having left his mark on the stage, in films, in concerts and as a unique recording artist. This concert, which includes Jacques Brel, Édith Piaf, Kurt Weil, Georges Gershwin, Fritz Fritz Zander, John Kander and Van Morrison, brings to Teatro das Figuras a show that has been applauded in prestigious halls around the world.

The festival ends on August 11, at the Municipal Auditorium of Portimão, with “A Magia do Musical”, dedicated to the best musicals of all times.

Directed by John Avery, OA Associate Conductor, the program includes works by authors such as Andrew Lloyd Webber, considered one of the most renowned musical creators of the late XNUMXth century. XX, passing by others no less popular, such as Richard Rodgers, Lionel Bart, Alain Boublil or Frank Loesser. Cats, Oklahoma, Oliver, Mary Poppins, Jesus Christ Super Star e Mamma Mia are just some of the works that can be heard in this concert.

The CGD Festival is a co-production by OA and the banking entity that gives its name to the initiative, this year with the support of the Municipality of Loulé, the Municipality of Tavira, the Quartel da Atalaia, in Tavira, the Municipal Theater of Faro, of the Municipality of Portimão.
