For Eduardo Bonança, coordinator of Civil Protection of Vila Real de Santo António,“despite the crisis that is being felt and the many difficulties associated with it, we had an extraordinary response from the entire population. From the youngest to the oldest, everyone contributed by leaving various assets at the headquarters of the city's Volunteer Firefighters”.

In total, more than two tons of essential goods such as water, juice, milk, bread, fruit, cookies and clothing were delivered.

“Especially on Friday and Saturday, the adhesion was very large. Some supermarkets, stores, restaurants and bakeries also showed solidarity by offering what they could” adds Eduardo Bonança.

Luís Gomes, Mayor of Vila Real de Santo António, and responsible for Civil Protection of the county, thanks the entire population that mobilized to support the firefighters in Portugal who were fighting the fires of the last week, and who joined the spontaneous campaign by the anonymous population for the delivery of goods.

"We even had young people who came to offer to help fight the fires, without having any experience, which demonstrates the awareness and solidarity with all those who over several days were fighting the flames."

"Once again, the size of the heart of our population was very explicit, that even going through difficulties they participated with all they could and this deserves our greatest and deepest recognition", as well as a word of appreciation to the Firefighters who in a way selflessly put out the flames in our Algarve, concludes Luís Gomes.
