PS Deputy Miguel Freitas protested today against the exclusion of the Algarve from emblematic measures of the «Impulso Jovem» program, considering that, with this “shocking” decision, the Government reveals a profound insensitivity to the social crisis that is being experienced in the Algarve. region with the highest unemployment rate in the country.

“The Algarve is out of the most emblematic of measures, the Passaporte Emprego, a program of professional internships that would be extremely beneficial for the region most penalized by unemployment in Portugal”, denounces the PS deputy, asking about the results of this decision.

"In view of this exclusion, the Government has to explain how it intends to solve the problem of youth employment in the Algarve region, where unemployment rates reach 20%", emphasizes Miguel Freitas, considering that this executive decision is the second version of the famous invitation made by Passos Coelho to Portuguese young people, to whom he suggested emigration as a solution to get a job.

"The Government has just created a new form of discrimination against young people, removing their rights due to a residency condition, since people from the Algarve who want access to this professional internship program in tradable goods sectors are forced to leave the region. ”, criticizes the socialist deputy.

“The Algarve was excluded from an important part of the program for not being in the convergence regions, but the Government must create its own mechanisms for the region, defining the same profile of measures with national funds, namely through the 23 million euro package available in the Institute for Employment and Vocational Training to support job creation”, defends Miguel Freitas, for whom the exclusion of the Algarve is more “a wrong signal given to the region” by the Government.

"Government measures to create employment, as a rule, leave the Algarve out, or arrive late, as is the case with the legislative change proposed by the PS, aimed at intermittent hiring for the tourism sector under the Estímulo 2012 program, which only should be discussed in the Social Concert, in August, making the intended results unfeasible this year”, observes the deputy and socialist leader, to emphasize that, in the Algarve, “all unemployment indicators are frightening.”

"Right now, there are more than 6.000 unemployed people, compared to last year, there are 50% less initiatives to create their own jobs and a marked reduction in the intervention of local authorities in the creation of employment and insertion contracts", emphasizes Miguel Freitas who, together with MPs João Soares and Miguel Laranjeiro, they will question the Government about the reasons that led to the exclusion of the Algarve from such important measures of the 'Impulso Jovem' programme.

The parliamentarians also intend to insist with the Government on the need for the executive to move quickly with the legislative change in the scope of the “Estímulo 2012” program, since the Ministry of Economy considered with interest the intermittent hiring in the tourism sector, so that the measure obtains effective results later this year.
