The Algarve restaurant Vila Joya, whose chef is the Austrian Dieter Koschina, was considered the 45th best in the world by World's 50 Best Restaurants 2012, at the awards ceremony that took place on Monday in London.

This is the first time that a Portuguese restaurant has been able to integrate this exclusive list of the best restaurants in the world, which continues to be run, for the third consecutive year, by 'Noma' from Copenhagen (Denmark).

At the ceremony in London, Elena Arzak was also distinguished as the best female chef in the world, and Thomas Keller (French Laundry, Per Se from New York) for her contribution to world cuisine, and the Steirereck restaurant, from Vienna, Austria , with the Slow Food UK Award.
