The book “O País a Régua e Esquadro. Urbanism, Architecture and Memory in Duarte Pacheco's Public Work”, by Sandra Vaz Costa, will be presented this Friday, May 25th, at 18 pm, in the Loulé Municipal Assembly Room.
This dissertation, which arises within the scope of the doctoral thesis in History (Art Heritage and Restoration), by the University of Lisbon, Faculty of Arts, addresses the Public Work undertaken by Duarte Pacheco and aims to contribute to the clarification of the design process and implementation of an entire program coordinated by the politician from 1925 to 1943.
Referencing the universe of study of Urbanism, Architecture and Heritage Memory in the Portuguese context over the period considered and based on its application to six case studies, the relationship between the decree, the project and the concrete is analyzed in the political legacy. .
Considering Duarte Pacheco's way of acting and identifying his work method in areas as different as the direction of the Instituto Superior Técnico, the Lisbon City Council, the Ministry of Public Instruction and the Ministry of Public Works and Communications, the legacy of political policy appears in a new perspective, possible through the collection of an important piece of information that clarifies the time, mode, services and agents that in the space of eighteen years changed the country's landscape.
