Rodrigo Correia and Emanuel Duarte, young sailors from Clube Naval de Portimão (CNP), managed to qualify for the European sailing in the Optimist class, to be held in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy, between June 30th and July 8th.

The qualification was achieved at the beginning of May, at the Portuguese Youth Championship 2012, held in Leixões, among a fleet of more than a hundred vessels, representing the national nautical universe. CNP sailors ranked 6th and 8th respectively.

In addition to the prestige of representing the national colors, young sailors and their parents are also responsible for all costs related to participation, from travel, accommodation, food and even registration in the competition. In all, each athlete will have to spend around 1.800 euros to be able to represent their country.

The Clube Naval de Portimão said that, "despite the financial difficulties that it naturally goes through, it will contribute to the expenses of the athletes with the value of the registrations and will develop a set of initiatives aimed at raising funds to help the two young people."

Founded on October 8, 1960, under the name of Associação Naval Infante de Sagres, the Clube Naval de Portimão resulted from the social need that existed at the time regarding the organization and promotion of nautical sports in Portimão.

The CNP has in its genesis the practice of sports associated with the sea. A large number of practitioners of Power Boating, Canoeing, Sailing, Sport Fishing, Windsurfing and Surfing have spent 52 years at the CNP. in your curriculum counts on national champion titles by clubs and national and world champions at individual level.

The CNP is headquartered in an iconic building in the city located on the river that throughout history has given Portimão greatness and prosperity.

Since 1986, by government order, it has been granted the status of public utility and received the Medal of Merit (Gold degree) from the Portimão City Council in 2010.
