Alexandra Cunha, president of the national board of the League for the Protection of Nature (LPN), has just been nominated for the 2011 Active Woman Award.

Alexandra Cunha, marine biologist and researcher at the Center for Marine Sciences (CCMar) of the University of Algarve, is one of the five nominees for the 2011 Woman Activa Award.

The remaining nominees are Sofia Pombo e Costa (president of Associação Mimar), Ana Paula Ramos (director of the Pinheiro da Cruz Prison), Maria Antónia Machado (volunteer in palliative care at IPO Porto) and Sandra Nascimento, president of the Association for the Promotion of Child Safety (APSI).

According to the magazine that promotes the award, the nominees are women who make a difference every day in areas as diverse as environmental protection, social action, child safety and palliative care.

The winner's name will be announced at an awards ceremony in June, which should be attended by Maria Cavaco Silva and Francisco Pinto Balsemão, president of Grupo Impresa to which the magazine «Activa» belongs.

The winner will receive the trophy and a check worth 20 euros. The other candidates will receive a voucher for purchases and/or services in the amount of 5 thousand euros.

In February, Alexandra Cunha had won the Terre des Femmes award, from the Yves Rocher Foundation.
