Starting this year, Jazz has an international day. UNESCO established that, from 2012, April 30th will be the day that the style of music immortalized by names like Miles Davis or John Coltrane will be celebrated all over the world. And the Algarve is no exception: by the hand of Grémio das Músicas, Teatro das Figuras receives, on this day, from 21 pm, a very special concert.

Hosted by José Duarte, the mythical creator of the radio program “Cinco Minutos de Jazz”, by Antena 1 and Antena 2 (which has been broadcasting daily for 45 years!), the concert will feature Andalucia Big Band, directed by Zé Eduardo, but also with names like Maria João and Mário Laginha, the Algarve Viviane, João Frade, Fátima Serro and the band Fried Neuronium.

Andalucia Big Band was created in 2011 by the musicians themselves and has a repertoire of contemporary authors. The well-known Algarve singer Viviane – who founded the band Entre Aspas and has a singular voice, fusing different musical genres – and the duo Maria João and Mário Laginha – two of the symbols of Portuguese jazz – are the other highlights of this concert in homage to a genre which is now also recognized by UNESCO.
