A giant folar will be given to taste to hundreds of curious people who travel on Easter Sunday, April 8, at 16 pm, to the car park next to the Polidesportivo da Guia, to taste the recipe made to perfection.

The ritual of cutting the folar, carried out by the mayor of Albufeira, will be the high point of the festivities. For Desidério Silva, “this initiative, in addition to giving gastronomic traditions their place in the community, is of special importance for boosting local commerce and also tourist activities, at a time of year when many visitors meet in Albufeira”.

Considered the most important Christian feast, as it commemorates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, Easter is lived with intensity by the Portuguese and, in addition to chocolate eggs, it is also time for godchildren to offer flowers to the godparents on Palm Sunday and receive the Folar traditional, symbol of friendship and reconciliation.

This gastronomic delicacy, also known as 'Easter Bread', is made in different ways depending on the country's regions. In the municipality of Albufeira, tradition dictates that the recipe includes ingredients such as cinnamon, lard, fennel and sugar.

In addition to the traditional folk tasting, the show will feature moments of musical entertainment by the organist Jerónimo and the Olhos de Água Folklore Group.

The event is organized by Guia Futebol Clube and has the support of Albufeira Town Hall and Guia Parish Council.
