Those interested in joining the University of Algarve through the special competition for people over 23 years old can enroll in the respective exams until the 27th of April. Only students who have completed 23 years of age by December 31, 2011 and who, at the same time, do not hold higher education qualifications can apply.
Entries can be made online (www.ualg.pt), by email ([email protected]), or in person at the Academic Services of the University of Algarve.
The test, which includes a specific component and a Portuguese language component, takes place on June 2nd, with the final classification guidelines posted on the 18th of that month. The selection also includes the evaluation of the candidate's academic and professional curriculum and an interview.
More than 50 courses available to candidates
The University of Algarve offers people over 23 years old more than fifty courses in its six teaching areas: Arts, Literature and History; Basic and Engineering Sciences; Life, Earth, Sea and Environmental Sciences; Social, Education and Training Sciences; Health Sciences and Technologies; Economy, Management and Tourism.
Asked about the importance of the Majors of 23 Contest for the University of Algarve and for the region, João Guerreiro, dean of UAlg, explains: “by adopting the possibility of attracting students over 23, the designated new audiences, the University is open its doors to citizens who, in their time, were unable to enter higher education. After professional lives, in some cases intense and well fulfilled, the University is available, under certain conditions, to credit this lived experience and open the door to these citizens, admitting that the acquired tacit knowledge is a determining element in the individual formation of these citizens”.
This is the challenge that the University makes to those over 23 years old: “appear in the tests that certify specific training and a command of Portuguese and they will be able to attend the University, transporting them to the reflection, which takes place throughout the course, your experience and the knowledge accumulated in the practical activity”, emphasizes João Guerreiro.
