The young Amaro Antunes, from the Tavira Cycling Club, has just been called up for the national Under-23 road team, whose first stage of the year will take place next week, between 12 and 16 March, at the National Velodrome , Sangalhos, involving 42 runners.

The national coach José Poeira invited 12 juniors, 11 under-23, 10 cadets and 9 runners for this stage of the young and women's road teams, with Amaro Antunes being the only person from the Algarve.

“It is a large group, but it is not closed. As the season progresses, it is possible that other cyclists will emerge that stand out and justify a call to the selection”, explains the technician.

In addition to training together, the runners will be subject to a battery of tests that allow them to know their intrinsic potential and, in this way, define which aspects should be worked on for the best development of each one of them.

Furthermore, especially with regard to younger people, it will be possible to start detecting the main innate talents, starting a progressive monitoring work.

The internship also aims to analyze the individual health record of each runner, an essential tool for combating doping and an integral part of the protocol established between the Portuguese Cycling Federation and Liberty Seguros, which has the support of LabMED.
