The fire that this afternoon consumed a wooded area in Caldas de Monchique, next to the Longevity Wellness Resort, was considered to have been under control at 18:17.

The fire was being fought with the help of a heavy bomber helicopter, which now, at nightfall, is no longer usable.

In the fight against the flames, which broke out shortly before 15 pm this Wednesday in that area of ​​the Serra de Monchique, 00 workers are involved, including 71 firefighters and 59 GIPS, supported by 10 vehicles.

The means on the ground, coordinated by the Firefighters commander of Monchique, had already managed to control one of the two fronts of the fire at 17:40 pm, coming to dominate the rest about half an hour later.

According to the Civil Protection website, there are currently two other fires in mainland Portugal, one in Vilarandelo, municipality of Valpaços, in Trás-os-Montes, also already under control, and another in Eiras (Barcelos), in district of Braga.
