A heavy bomber helicopter is being used to fight the fire that broke out this afternoon near Caldas de Monchique and the Longevity Welness Resort.

The fire, which was detected at 14:57 pm and is advancing on two fronts, is consuming an area of ​​forest, located next to those two tourist areas in the Monchique mountains.

According to the website of the National Civil Protection Authority, the fire is being fought by a total of 66 men, including 59 firefighters and five GIPS, aided by 17 operational vehicles.

The wind that is felt in the area has hindered the action of firefighters in containing this fire.

According to the Civil Protection website, another fire is currently underway in mainland Portugal, in Vilarandelo, municipality of Valpaços, in Trás-os-Montes.
