As part of the celebrations for World Forest Day, the Portucel Soporcel group promoted, on March 19, a street action entitled “Give a hand to the Forest”, in which it offered hundreds of plants to the inhabitants of the municipality of Monchique.

This initiative, which aimed to sensitize the population to the importance of taking care of the forest, took place throughout the day at Largo dos Chorões, where several people received trees of different species and the children had fun with the games promoted by the Portucel Group. Soporcel.

The plants distributed were selected according to the characteristics of the region and the species produced in the Group's nurseries. Eucalyptus, holm oak, maritime pine, ash, Lúcia Lima, Alfazema and olive trees were offered.

Each plant was accompanied by a small explanatory leaflet and messages on the Group's sustainability practices.

This initiative aimed at “reinforcing the Group's commitment to generating wealth and well-being in the regions where it is present, raising awareness among the population and promoting an increase in the quality of life and preservation of the environment”.

With a preponderant position in the eucalyptus sector, the Portucel Soporcel Group claims to have «an active policy for the development of the national forest, being responsible for the largest number of trees planted in Portugal» and «for the management of around 120 thousand hectares of forest».
