Fluviário de Mora has already completed the conversion of lighting to LED technology and, since its opening and with energy rationalization measures, the space has reduced CO2 emissions by 130 tons per year and the electricity bill by 4200 euros per month.

The measures included an increase in the efficiency of the equipment, identifying consumption points and rationalizing its use, with simple and targeted solutions, such as reducing the number of lit lamps or reducing the hours of operation, or even ensuring that all the equipment computer is turned off outside office hours.

Other more complex solutions included increasing the efficiency of the HVAC system, adapting its operation to the actual operating needs, or installing speed variators in the pumps that operate the complex aquarium life support system, precisely fine-tuning the functioning of those machines and avoiding energy waste.

These measures, in a space of three years, had an effect, managing to reduce energy consumption, from the first to the third year, by 11,9%, about 130 thousand kWh per year.

With this reduction in electrical consumption, it is estimated at around 70 tons of CO2 which are no longer emitted into the atmosphere.

In this phase, Fluviário de Mora is witnessing the conclusion of the project to convert the lighting in the space to LED technology, in a project by Arquiservice of the Arquiled Group, headquartered in Mora.

This change will allow, according to those responsible for the Fluviário, «another significant annual reduction estimated at about 108 kWh, with a consequent reduction in CO emissions2 estimated at around 60 tonnes per year'.

Also in the ongoing Fluviário widening project, in the new habitat das Lontras, this concern is present, and the project includes a shading structure that will take advantage of new technologies for the production of renewable energy, integrating solar panels that will partially supply the energy needs of the new complex.

This is another step by Fluviário de Mora towards Eco-Efficiency, «in a contribution and example to the need to adopt measures that reduce the ecological bill associated with energy production, with a view to a sustainable future».

With more than 500 fish of 55 different species from all over the world in natural, aquatic and terrestrial habitats, in a route between the source and the mouth of a river, the Fluviário de Mora has received, since March 2007, more than 660 visitors .
