Only 538 people called the DTT call center because they were left without television, according to data until 13 pm this Thursday, announced the Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações (ANACOM).

However, from that universe, only 400 people had been without television because they had not prepared themselves. The others had already purchased the equipment, which was not yet operational.

These numbers are considered by ANACOM as "very positive, as they represent less than 1% of the approximately 78 thousand families that had to prepare to receive the digital signal".

The analogue television signal has so far been switched off in 39 municipalities in mainland Portugal, spread over six districts south of Lisbon, ANACOM also announced.

In total, the population covered by the two moments of disengagement that have already occurred, on January 12th and 23rd, exceeds 750 thousand inhabitants, in a total of more than 300 thousand families.

Proof of the high levels of migration to DTT are, according to ANACOM, sales of equipment suitable for receiving the digital signal.

During 2011, more than 808 thousand televisions compatible with the MPEG4/H264 standard, that is, compatible with DTT, were sold in Portugal. Of the total, 139 thousand units were sold during the month of December.

In the same period, the number of DTT decoders sold was around 426 units, more than half of this number was sold in December – 257 units, according to GFK data.

Recall that a Marktest survey revealed that half of the people who had already migrated had done so by buying televisions, and the other half by buying decoders.

"The migration to DTT is proceeding at a good pace", adds ANACOM. People who have not yet made the transition should do so in a timely manner, reducing the risk of not watching television.

The first step in preparing for the migration is to call toll free 800 200 838 or go to www.tdt.telecom.pt to check if you are in an area with terrestrial coverage or with satellite coverage.

ANACOM also recalls that there is a subsidy program for the purchase of decoder equipment. This program can be accessed by beneficiaries of the Social Insertion Income, retired people and pensioners with a monthly income of up to 500 euros, and those with a degree of disability equal to or greater than 60%. The subsidy corresponds to 50% of the price of the equipment, with a limit of 22 euros.

Local agents, such as Municipal Councils, Parish Councils, social action agents, among others, can play a fundamental role in providing information and support to populations, especially when it comes to older or less informed people. This has even been revealed by the experience of many municipalities.
