The municipality of Vila Real de Santo António decided, at a Council meeting, to extend the reduction of rates applicable under the Municipal Regulation for Urbanization and Building for one year, in order to stimulate growth in the construction sector and make it more advantageous the investment conditions in the county.

The measure, initially launched in February 2011 and then valid for six months, takes into account the careful monitoring of economic indicators, which leads the municipality to understand that some signs of crisis remain, affecting economic agents in the municipality.

As a result, the Vilarreal Chamber will continue to apply an 80 percent discount on the value of the financial compensation for not ceding areas for green spaces and for collective use or collective use equipment due to the municipality for the licensing of urban operations with impact or similar to allotment.

In the case of an urban planning operation whose object is the creation of a hotel, whose category is at least four stars, or any other economic activity that is committed to creating at least 15 permanent jobs, the discounts on fees or financial compensation will amount to 40 percent.

Operations of an urban nature not intended for tourist facilities will also benefit from a 20% discount for all fees, except for those already mentioned.

Until the end of this year, a system of volume discounts in water supply and collection of domestic wastewater supplied by SGU, EM SA to non-domestic consumers is also in place, with the aim of increasing the competitiveness of economic activities installed in VRSA .

"Because the municipality is aware of the difficulties of companies and knows that the construction sector has an expression in the economic activity of the municipality, we believe that maintaining the reduction in urban rates can contribute to increasing our competitiveness and encourage the capture of new investments" , notes the Mayor Luís Gomes.
